Henricus Verbruggen & Carolina van Rhijn


 

 

 
Augustus 31, 1924 steamship "Nieuw Amsterdam" anchored in New York. On board were Carolina Verbruggen - van Rhijn and her children Cornelis (6), Johanna (5), Jacoba (4) and Johannes (1)

Her husband, Henricus Verbruggen, already emigrated to the USA a couple of years before to provide enough money so that his family could make the trip as well.

The Verbruggen family, shortly after arriving in the USA. L-R: Carolina, Johanna, Henricus, Johannes, Cornelis and Jacoba. Cornelis, the eldest boy on this photograph passed away, aged eight or nine. Shortly afterwards another boy was born, named Cornelis too, in honour of his brother.
 

Henry and Carolina Verbruggen  settled in Little Chute, Wisconsin.  Henry worked in concrete construction and had his own company that put in sidewalks and curb and gutters for cities and towns.  His sons also worked with him in the construction business. 
Joanne, who lives in Palm Desert, California and is 88 years old;
Jacoba, who lived in Little Chute, Wisconsin, passed away in 2005 at the age of 84 years;
John, who lives in Little Chute, Wisconsin, and is  83 years old;
Casey, who lived in Little Chute, Wisconsin. passed away in 2001 at the age of 76 years.
