Allied regiments

After the failure of Market Garden the Waal river became frontline.  September 28, 1944 the first allied troops arrived at Dreumel. They stopped at "De drie bruggen", a well known spot just outside the village in the Nieuwstraat. The soldiers made a reconnaissance  patrol and returned to their positions near Nijmegen.

It lasted until October 20th before the troops stayed permanently in the village. From October 1944 until may 1945 Dreumel many regiments from England, Canada, Belgium and Holland were billeted in Dreumel. Click on the photograph below for an overview.
